About Me

At 33, I found the courage to seek psychotherapy, a massive step in my journey to understand my role as a man, husband, and father. This decision marked the beginning of a life-changing journey. From being a construction worker and firefighter to now studying for a BSc Hons in Integrative & Humanistic Psychotherapy, I’m on a journey to understand the toxicity in my masculinity.
This journey is also about breaking free from the constraints of my working-class pit village culture. But above all, it’s a journey of hope, a hope to discover my true self and who I aspire to be by continually pushing myself to grow and evolve. I believe that sharing my experiences in this blog will benefit not only me but also others who are seeking hope and direction in today’s world.
We Didn’t Start The Fire…
Throughout my time working with Derbyshire Fire & Rescue Service, as well as my vast experience with working-class men, one thing became abundantly clear, any vulnerability in a man is a weakness not welcomed. Despite the virtue signalling of today’s HR departments and the tokenisation of men’s mental health acceptance, we are doing enough. After the tragic loss of a colleague and friend to suicide, I could no longer stand on the sidelines. I was compelled to fully immerse myself in the pursuit of understanding men, our struggles, and what we’re doing so wrong for each other.
